Megaphen Products    (Phenolic Foam)

Megaphen, the Closed Cell, Phenolic, Insulating Foam

Megaphen is a Phenolic thermo set foam material which exhibits excellent fire performance.

This foam when tested achieved a surface fire index of 0.1, placing it in Class 1, The safest rating possible. (SABS 0177 Part 111)

Megaphen is extremely difficult to ignite, but, under severe conditions, any organic material will burn to a degree. If forced to burn, through contact with other burning materials, Megaphen will, under pyrolisis give off very low levels of both smoke and toxic gas.

The Phenolic molecule contains no halogen or nitrogen, making it impossible for Megaphen to give off any toxic halogenated (e.g.. HC1) or the more toxic nitrogenous gases (eg.NO2 or HCN) at all.

These gases are common combustion products of some traditional insulation foams.

Megaphen is produced with a closed cell structure in excess of 90%. This feature assures a product with an exceptionally low coefficient of heat transfer ('K' value). Production material will always return a 'k' value of ,02 W/mK or lower - as good, if not better than other traditional cellular insulants.

Megaphen's closed cell structure limits any direct moisture absorption (and subsequent insulation failure), should a cold systems' vapour seal be damaged. This type of failure is a major weakness of open cell systems.

Available in Flat Sheet, Pipe sections, or arc shaped segment, for Vessels and large Cylindrical Tanks, and cut to any thickness required.

Products can be faced with Mylar/foil, Foil/Kraft or PVC  vapour protection

MEGAPHEN

Megaphen is a closed-cell phenolic insulating foam that sets industry standards. While it more than matches all the accepted criteria of conventional insulants, Megaphen phenolic foam is CFC free and is also noted for its excellent fire resistant properties.

APPLICATION
Can be used in almost any industry where fire safe insulation is fundamental:
  • Mining
  • Air conditioning
  • Construction e.g. hospitals, hotels and airports
  • Refrigeration
DURABILITY
  • Odourless, inert and fully compatible with all standard building materials & components
  • Will not sustain vermin
  • Will not breed or promote fungi, mould or bacteria
  • Non-hygroscopic
  • Rot proof

TOOLS NEEDED FOR INSTALLATION
  • Industry specific
  • Adhesive tape, profiling tools for minor modifications
  • Profiles are generally cut to order, requiring simple fixing in place Profiles fully enclosed in vapour barrier are vacuum sealed and must not be cut.

Profiles fully enclosed in vapour barrier are vacuum sealed and must not be cut.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
In accordance with Engineers instructions, best practice and industry standards.
BENEFITS
The excellent k-value allows the use of thinner insulation sections, saving space and reducing the cost of outer cladding and vapour barrier.
HANDLING & STORAGE
Megaphen should always be stored under cover from the elements, transported in bundles, or carried individually on edge. As per all items in storage, fire safety regulations should always be considered. All health & safety regulations should be adhered to and complied with.
